Mixer with Oakland Mayor and City Council Candidates – with East Bay Young Dems, Latine Young Dems of the Bay Area, East Bay Stonewall Democratic Club, and the Oakland East Bay Democratic Club

MGO & Alameda County Democratic Lawyers Joint Endorsement Meeting for Local Elections
Will be either the evening of Tuesday 8/23 or a weekend. Will be online.

State & Local Ballot Measures Discussion and Endorsement Meeting
Tuesday September 13, 7:30-9pm.  Will be online.

Oakland Mayor Candidate Forum with MOBN (Make Oakland Better Now)

Thank you for participating in our endorsement vote!  Here are the Metropolitan Greater Oakland Democratic Club’s endorsements for the local elections in the June primary:

Alameda County Board of Supervisors, District 3: Rebecca Kaplan

Sheriff: Yesenia Sanchez

Oakland Measure C (Parcel tax extension for Library Funding): Yes

Congress: Barbara Lee

No candidate met our threshold for endorsement (60%) for County Superintendent of Schools or District Attorney.

MGO Meeting on Tuesday, April 12, 7:30 p.m. Primary Election Endorsement Meeting with the Alameda County Democratic Lawyers

Dear MGO and Alameda County Democratic Lawyers Club (ACDLC) Members and Friends:   

The MGO Democratic Club and the ACDLC will be holding a joint candidate endorsement zoom meeting on Tuesday, April 12, 7:30-9:00 p.m.    We invite you to attend and see and hear the public-spirited candidates who are making time to come and speak to us and answer questions.  They are democracy in action.   Please note, if MGO members wish to discuss the candidates after their presentations, we will go into club-separated closed members-only session with all candidates excluded.

MGO Dues and Voting Rights

    Only paid-up members will  receive ballots. They will be sent by email after the meeting.  Our dues year began on January 1st. If you have not yet paid your dues, please go to our website, mgodems.org, and click on the “Join MGO” icon.  (This is inapplicable to anyone in the midst of a two-year membership term.) We are inviting candidates for the following elections.

–  Board of Supervisors, District 3
–  District Attorney
–  Sheriff
–  Alameda County Superintendent of SchoolsWe will also discuss the following ballot measure.
–  Oakland Library Parcel Tax Renewal

MGO members will receive separate confidential e-ballots via OpaVote which will be returnable to their respective clubs on a deadline to be announced.

ACDLC Dues and Voting Rights
Please renew your ACDLC dues for 2022 ($25 payable via check to ACDLC [mail to: Guy Bryant, Treasurer, 5075 Hopyard Road, Pleasanton, CA. 94588 or make a payment using PayPal [Login to your PayPal account and send payment to contact@alamedademlawyers.org]). Only Dues paying members will be allowed to vote.  Dues paying members will be emailed a link to the official Endorsement Ballot via OpaVote on or around April 12, 2022 and will have until 5:00 pm Friday April 15, 2022 to turn in their vote. Check payments must be received by April 12, 2022 to allow voting. New members may vote immediately upon payment of club dues.    The meeting is open to the public. Invite a friend, neighbor or student.

Alameda County Democratic Lawyers
The Alameda County Democratic Lawyers Club (ACDLC) is one of  the oldest Democratic clubs in Oakland and has been influencing local policy, laws and political races in Alameda County for over 50 years. ACDLC has recently received statewide and national recognition from helping candidates like Kamala Harris and Eric Swalwell obtain their first major political endorsements.

Updates on the 2022 California Democratic Party Platform

Hello MGO Members and Friends:

The 10-million member California Democratic Party is the nation’s largest statewide party. This weekend it is meeting online to vote on endorsements and update the final draft party’s 2022 platform. The document is impressive. You can review it at this link.

At our March 8th meeting MGO Vice President and California Democratic Party Executive Board member Alfred Twu will present the platform’s major  highlights  and after that we’ll have open discussion.

MGO Meeting on Tuesday, February 8, 7:30 p.m. A Conversation on Housing & Homelessness with Shola Olatoye, Director of Housing and Community Development for the City of Oakland.

Hello MGO Members and Friends:

Homelessness, street encampments, and the extent of the progress being made in solving these urgent and tragic  situations are top-of-mind for all of Oakland.  Our speaker this coming Tuesday evening is right on point:  We will be joined by Shola Olatoye, Director of Housing and Community Development for the City of Oakland.

Ms. Olatoye leads the city’s strategic development plans to implement Mayor Libby Schaff’s Housing Plan to create and to preserve 17,000 units of affordable housing in the City of Oakland. She manages the $69M “Housing” department where she manages a team of 75 professionals focused on providing deeply affordable through targeted programmatic, policy and financial interventions. Most recently, she is leading the city’s effort to distribute more than $40M in emergency rental assistance while acquiring more than 1,000 hotel/motel rooms to house formerly homeless persons.
