Oakland City Council District 1 Candidate Forum
Featuring Dan Kalb, Tri Ngo, and Steph Walton
Co-hosted with the East Bay Young Democgrats, MGO Democratic Club will be taking up the first in a series of candidate forums for the 2020 general election. Candidates Dan Kalb, Tri Ngo, and Steph Walton will be participating in this candidate forum. The forum will primarily be structured as a Questions & Answers format.
The first city council district in Oakland spans from Temescal, located in North Oakland, centered on Telegraph Avenue, up to Bushrod, in North Oakland, centered on Shattuck Avenue, just south of Ashby BART Station in South Berkeley.

Our speaker will be Thomas Peele.
INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM: GETTING THE FACTS BEHIND GOVERNMENT CURTAINS
Mr. Peele is a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter on the staff of the Bay Area News Group, which includes the East Bay Times. He has worked at newspapers, including Newsday, for 34 years in California and elsewhere, focusing on government accountability, public records and data and often speaking about transparency laws publicly. In addition to a 2017 Pulitzer, his more than 60 journalism awards include Investigative Reporters and Editors’ Tom Renner Award for organized-crime reporting and the McGill Medal for Journalistic Courage. He is also the author of the book “Killing the Messenger,” on the murder of Oakland journalist Chauncey Bailey. He also lectures at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
Come at 7:00 p.m. for a half hour of socializing and light refreshments. A great chance to catch up with other club members or to meet them for the first time.
A short membership meeting will follow the presentation.
