Next MGO Meeting on Tuesday, June 8, 7:30 p.m. MGO is honored to join Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA) in presenting this important panel  

Guest Speakers:   Dr. Charles P. Henry | UCB Professor Emeritus of African American Studies Charles P. Henry, is Professor Emeritus of African American Studies at the University of California at Berkeley. In 1994, President Clinton appointed him to the National Council on the Humanities for a six-year term. A former president of the National Council for Black Studies, Dr. Henry is the author/editor of nine books and more than 80 articles and reviews on Black politics, public policy, and human rights. Before joining the U.C. Berkeley in 1981, he taught at Denison University and Howard University.    Rev. Dr. Amos Brown | NAACP A distinguished scholar, theologian, preacher and social activist, Dr. Amos Brown has maintained a marriage of piety and political action in his ministry. He was equipped for great and distinct ministerial leadership through his training at Morehouse College, B.A. (1964) and earned a Master of Divinity degree from Crozer Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary. A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Brown has been Pastor of San Francisco’s Third Baptist Church since 1976. Dr. Brown is also a former member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.   Yvette Carnell | American Descendants of Slavery Yvette Carnell writes about politics, wealth and race. She is the founder of the weekly BreakingBrown political show. Before embarking on a career in news media, she served as a Congressional aide, first to Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), and later to former Congressman Marion Berry (D-AR). Her articles have been featured in the Huffington Post, Counterpunch and YourBlackWorld. She has been featured by national news outlets including, but not limited to; The Nation, The Guardian, Politico and NPR. She received a B.A. in Political Science from Howard University.

MGO is honored to welcome Councilmember Sheng Thao at our next general membership meeting Tuesday, May 11th.  Councilmember Thao will speak on issues in Oakland’s 4th district and then answer questions from club members.

With Assemblymember Rob Bonta selected to be the new California Attorney General, Assembly District 18 will be having a special election this year. 

Please join us for an early look at the candidates for the Assembly District 18.  Three of the five known candidates will attend this meeting. This is not an endorsement meeting, and the remaining two candidates, who were unavailable, will be invited to speak briefly at future meetings.  The three attending are:

           This month we depart from our usual concentration on local issues to discuss what is on all of our minds:  Join us by zoom at our monthly general meeting for a club discussion of the January 6th Insurrection.  This is an opportunity to share your thoughts and speak your mind.
