June 8 Meeting Announcement

Next MGO Meeting on Tuesday, June 8, 7:30 p.m. MGO is honored to join Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA) in presenting this important panel  

Guest Speakers:   Dr. Charles P. Henry | UCB Professor Emeritus of African American Studies Charles P. Henry, is Professor Emeritus of African American Studies at the University of California at Berkeley. In 1994, President Clinton appointed him to the National Council on the Humanities for a six-year term. A former president of the National Council for Black Studies, Dr. Henry is the author/editor of nine books and more than 80 articles and reviews on Black politics, public policy, and human rights. Before joining the U.C. Berkeley in 1981, he taught at Denison University and Howard University.    Rev. Dr. Amos Brown | NAACP A distinguished scholar, theologian, preacher and social activist, Dr. Amos Brown has maintained a marriage of piety and political action in his ministry. He was equipped for great and distinct ministerial leadership through his training at Morehouse College, B.A. (1964) and earned a Master of Divinity degree from Crozer Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary. A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Brown has been Pastor of San Francisco’s Third Baptist Church since 1976. Dr. Brown is also a former member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.   Yvette Carnell | American Descendants of Slavery Yvette Carnell writes about politics, wealth and race. She is the founder of the weekly BreakingBrown political show. Before embarking on a career in news media, she served as a Congressional aide, first to Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), and later to former Congressman Marion Berry (D-AR). Her articles have been featured in the Huffington Post, Counterpunch and YourBlackWorld. She has been featured by national news outlets including, but not limited to; The Nation, The Guardian, Politico and NPR. She received a B.A. in Political Science from Howard University.
