February 11, 2020 Endorsement Meeting

Dear MGO Members and Friends:

Please join us at our candidate endorsement meeting for the March 3, 2020 election.

The meeting will be held on and at:
Tuesday, Feb 11, 2020, 6:00 to 9:00 P.M.
Thornhill Room, Montclair Presbyterian Church
5701 Thornhill Drive, Oakland


 We will cover the following ballot measures and candidate races: Member Dem. County Central Committee, A.D. 15th Member Dem. County Central Committee, A.D. 18th    13th Congressional District 9th State Senate District 9 Assembly District 15   Assembly District 18 Superior Court Judge, Seat 2   Member County Board of Education Trustee Area 2   County Board of Supervisors District 4 County Board of Supervisors District 5 State Proposition 13   County Measure C (Health & Child Care)   Oakland Measures Q, R, S If you have received your ballot pamphlets before the meeting, you may find it helpful to bring them.

Light refreshments will be available.

MGO can only endorse candidates who are currently registered members of the Democratic Party.  However, the club is permitted to allow candidates for non-partisan offices to speak to the Club during its candidate meetings.

At the conclusion of the presentations club members will go into closed session to  discuss the potential endorsements and exchange views.  Member participation is encouraged but not required.  Paper ballots will be distributed for private balloting.members can cast those ballots at any time during the meeting.   

The Metropolitan-Greater Oakland Democratic Club (MGO) is the oldest Democratic club in Oakland, and has been involved in Oakland politics and public policy for over 60 years.

Tuesday January 14 Presidential Debate Watch Party

Join Us to Watch the Seventh Democratic Presidential Candidates Debate on Tuesday Evening January 14th at 6:00 p.m.  We will have a livestream on the projector.  Come early for pizza, refreshments and socializing beginning at 5:15 p.m.

Jailed Without Justice: Hope and Despair in ICE Detention

MGO welcomes Linda Olvera, Rodrigo Torres and April Neuman, three active participants in Freedom for Immigrants, a national organization whose members visit, comfort and assist immigrants detained in ICE facilities. They will describe their experiences during their direct contact work in California and at the border.

Refreshments and socializing will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the presentation at 7:30 p.m. in the Family Room of the Montclair Presbyterian Church at 5701 Thornhill Drive, Oakland.

Presentations of the club are open to the public.

MGO is honored to welcome Oakland Police Commission Chair Regina Jackson at our next general membership meeting Monday, October 7th. Regina will provide an overview of the creation of the Commission, its mission, duties, legal authority, structure, difficulties and accomplishments.
